My little green problem

by Rampage @ Friday, Feb. 08, 2008 - 17:09:56

So this is my tree. I bought him about a month ago, and since then he has been looking increasingly sad-looking. Which upsets me, as I don't know how to cheer him up. I talk to him, I gave him a name, I water him every two days and feed him plant food stuff every week. The care instructions were rather limited, vaguely telling me to keep the soil damp. There's also plenty of sunshine and the room is nice and warm. It's a Pachira Green Star, dunno if that means anything to anyone...

So here you can see that he looks all droopy and sad...

And here you can see that pot that he lives in. Maybe it's too small?

And a close-up of the discolouration.

When I'm all droopy and sad, nothing cheers me up more than a hug! Although I'd have to see photographic evidence of that to make sure that you are hugging correctly :P

I have no doubt that you are a marvellous hugger, but I would assume that plant hugging is a totally different art!

Just to confirm, he is easily the best hugger ever.

:D

Apart from the fact that I am now hugging my computer, yes it is better! :)

I'd suggest that you stop weeing in the plant pot.

Perhaps he doesn't like his name?

Ask him what he'd like to be called

Don't water him too much

Give him a bigger pot

My book says:

Water freely in summer but keep compost barely moist in winter.

High humidity necessary; mist leaves frequently.

Feed April to September.

Repot ever two years in spring using soil-based potting mixture.

Do not neglect feeding or potting on as lower leaves may be lost and will not be replaced!!

Hope that helps!

He was called Bambi but I renamed him Bruno.

Hmm, do you think watering every two day is too much?

I shall repot him this weekend. :)

What does 'mist leaves frequently mean? I'm stoopid...

Thanks for your help! :)

With a fine water spray stupid!

I suppose you could shower with him! No forget that!

Just sponge him down!

Have fun. :))

I shall post pictures of my other green baby, Sidney, on Monday.

I hope to grow some tomatoes on my window sill in spring, my living room is very sunny. :)

That pot is too small you bastard. Repot it or I'll be round to sort you out.

Discolouration means too much or too little light, too little judging by the photo.

They don't like cigarette smoke either, but you don't do you?

I hate cigarette smoke with the burning passion of hell fire. Very strict no-smoking policy is in operation in my place.

It gets the maximum amount of light that a Berlin winter allows, my living room is very bright. Faces south! :)

OK, I shall repot at the weekend, I promise!

What you have there my friend is a money tree botanically known as "Pachira Aquatica" or other common names are Guiana Chestnut, Malabar Chestnut, Saba Nut.
If you think it is born as pot plant, well..not really. It is actually a spreading tree that grows to 60 feet tall in the wide. It has greenish bark and shiny, dark green compound, 8-10 inches leaves. Pachira is native to Central American and Northern South American. In the wild, it is a wetland tree that grows in freshwater swaps associated with tropical estuaries. It often grows alongside rivers, were its branches arch out over the water.

The Money Tree is very easy to take care of. Even though it is an wetland sunshine plant. It still lives very well with dryness and low light. So it is an ideal for home or office pot plant. No need to watering them too often, just enough to keep the soil moistured. When the leaves grow too big you just trim them off. The new bud will start popping out a few days later

Would you be happy living in a cubicle 24 hours a day with no room to spread your wings ??I don't think so! :))
But Im no expert , the only plants that survive in my place are cactus:))

xx

*taps nose*

Dunno mate...I do believe that is Mary Jane that you are growing. Surprised no one else saw it.

The pot is too small and its an indoor plant.. it does't like direct sunlight. Plus you probably over watered.

Whats the opposite to the Midas touch? The Rampage touch...
