Ivy!

by MissyMouse @ Sunday, May. 18, 2008 - 23:26:16

Can anyone give me some tips on getting rid of the damm stuff??

I did have some planted in my garden (yep, bad move by me!) but am now being taken over by that and next doors giant ivy too. I have chopped all my ivy at the roots and am waiting for it to die but next doors keeps on marching into my garden. I did get bold last week and sprayed the ivy with some week killer but it seems the stuff runs off the ivys shiney leaves and does nothing :(

So, short of using a flame thrower has anyone got any tips for removing the dreaded ivy??

I like it too that's why I planted 1 little plant but I hate the gigantic, fast marching stuff from next door. I have Russian vine coming at me from the other side too!

Heeeeelppppppp!

I've read that you can try mixing it (glyphosate is safest) with a little detergent to help "wet" the leaves; or you can mix it with wallpaper paste to paint it on in dollops!

Many thanks for that tip, I shall let you know how I get on :)

Buy a goat, keep it hungry and wait for results.

I think you simply have to face it... nature will out.

The problem with gardeners is that, at heart, they are either control freaks or their psychological makeup requires a need for them to fail.

The former will spend every waking moment putting the symmetry back that nature destroys by the second.

The latter, knowing the task is impossible, rise to the challenge and are rewarded every time by pleasurable failure.

The Chelsea flower show...amateur gardners...eat your heart out!
